As a cloud-optimized module, it supports virtualization and cloud-native functions, such as 5G user plane functions, providing real-time, in-depth traffic insights. ipoque GmbH, a Rohde & Schwarz company, has launched R&SvPACE, its Vector Packet Processing (VPP)-native Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine, designed to meet IP traffic visibility needs in cloud computing environments.

The solution can also handle obfuscated and anonymized traffic, for example, traffic served via CDNs and VPNs, as well as traffic that is randomized and masked by domain frontiers. Advanced ETI technologies include machine learning, deep learning, and high-dimensional data analysis. It combines traditional DPI techniques such as statistical/heuristic and behavioral analysis with metadata extraction and encrypted traffic intelligence (ETI) to accurately and reliably identify and classify protocols, applications and services. They allow traffic inspection in the cloud to extend to encrypted traffic, including the use of protocols and technologies such as TLS 1.3, TLS 1.3 0-RTT, ESNI, ECH, DoT, and DoH.

At its core, VPP takes DPI processing speed to a new level, increasing the average clock-per-packet ratio to triple the speed. It also has a memory footprint of less than 400 bytes per 5-tuple connection and 700 bytes per network endpoint. Additionally, it facilitates thread-safe endpoint access across multiple worker cores. It also builds on the capabilities and synthesis of R&SPACE2 (ipoque's spp-based DPI engine) with an extensive, continuously updated signature library and well-defined APIs for seamless integration. It also provides support for first packet classification using smart caching technology.

Dr. Martin Mieth, vice president of engineering at ipoque said:“The transition to the cloud requires packet processing technologies that can provide the speed, latency and cost efficiencies needed to support the growing traffic and breadth of applications hosted and delivered from the cloud. VPP includes a vertex memory cache based on local storage The batch processing of vectors, whose adoption significantly reduces CPU and energy consumption, enables our DPI technology to deliver unmatched performance and scalability in cloud and virtualized environments,"

By licensing OEM DPI engines, vendors can greatly improve their time-to-market, realize significant CAPEX/OPEX savings, and future-proof their traffic inspection capabilities. VNF/CNF vendors deploying the solution benefit from the company's extensive experience and expertise in implementing DPI for various network types. They can also take advantage of the company's continued advancement in the DPI market, while taking advantage of exceptional support and service tailored to their customers' exact needs.
