Volkswagen has signed a five-year contract with Qualcomm Technologies, foreign media reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The main part of the contract is that Volkswagen will use Qualcomm's autonomous driving chip (SoC) in all its vehicle brands sold worldwide from 2026.Qualcomm's first chips will be delivered in 2025, after which it will supply the masses until 2031, with orders worth 1 billion euros, according to the person.

Volkswagen declined to comment:A few days ago, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess reportedly went to Qualcomm's headquarters in San Diego to sign a contract. There, Diess agreed with Cristiano Amon, the chief executive of Qualcomm, and Nakul Duggal, the chief executive of Qualcomm Vehicles, on the terms of future partnerships. The fact that Diess himself flew to the United States for talks shows the importance of cooperation for Europe's largest carmaker and its CHIEF executive.

According to understanding, in addition to Volkswagen, Qualcomm also reached cooperation agreements with BMW Group. BMW will also use Qualcomm chips in its next-generation driver assistance and autonomous driving systems.

BMW's next generation autonomous driving software stack will be based on Snapdragon Ride Vision System-level chip (SoC), visual perception and ADAS central computing SoC controller managed by Gaoche to cloud service platform. These include computer vision soCs designed to support front, rear and circumnavigation cameras, as well as high-performance ADAS central computing controllers to support driving strategy and other planning and driving functions in BMW products. In addition, BMW's Neue Klasse will be equipped with Qualcomm chips in the future.
