Vishay has introduced a new device in its VLMU35xx series of ceramic-based, high-power UV LEDs and silicone lenses with a wavelength in the 365nm range. Vishay Semiconductors VLMU3510-365-130 is designed to provide a reliable, energy-efficient alternative to mercury lamps in a compact 3.45mm x 3.45mm surface mount package that provides a very long service life for medical, industrial and printing applications. The VLMU3510-365-130's silicone lens achieves an extremely long life of up to 25,000 h, while the typical life of a mercury lamp is 10,000 h. Environmentally friendly UV LEDs do not contain heavy metals and have resistance to shock and degradation due to frequent on / off switching, thereby improving reliability. Mercury lamps require complex drive circuits and require 2 to 15 minutes to warm up, while the VLMU3510-365-130 allows for simple low voltage circuits and does not require warm-up time. The devices released today are based on InGaN (Indium Gallium Nitride) technology and have a typical radiant power of 690mW at 500mA and 945mW at 700mA in the wavelength range of 362.5nm to 370nm. The VLMU3510-365-130 provides an emission angle of 130 degrees and a radiation intensity of 315mW / sr at 700mA. LED specifications make it ideal for UV curing in nail salons, dental and poster printing applications; blood and counterfeit banknote detection; and photocatalytic purification. The company said that the VLMU3510-365-130 is RoHS compliant, halogen-free, compatible with reflow soldering processes, and has a humidity sensitivity rating of J-STD-020, which is '3'.
