Toshiba Europe has expanded its ApP Lite application processor portfolio of wearables and the Internet of Things (IoT). TZ1201XBG is the latest product of the TZ1000 series. It is based on a high-performance 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4F RISC processor and can run at frequencies up to 120MHz. In addition to 2.2MB of embedded high-speed SRAM, the TZ1201XBG also integrates e • MMCTM / SDIO interfaces, which support external memory ICs such as SPI NOR, SPI NAND, and e • MMC. This support gives designers the flexibility to specify the most appropriate memory IC and capacity for their device. The need for a high-quality user experience has become extremely important and driven by a surge in interest in wearable devices that monitor the duration and level of physical activity to promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The integrated audio interface, 2D graphics accelerator and MIPI-compliant display driver ensure the highest level of user experience. The integrated USB, UART, SPI and I2C interfaces combined with compression and decompression hardware engines support the use of external sensors and peripherals that can monitor activity and motion. In addition, an integrated 24-bit ΔΣ ADC with an analog front end can support a wide range of analog sensors. This integration helps reduce footprint and overall system cost. The active current consumption of the ARM Cortex-M4F in the TZ1201XBG core under normal operating mode is 78uA / MHz. It works in conjunction with power management software to use it for about a week in pulse measurement applications and about a month in watch applications with 200mAh batteries. The integration of AES and SHA256 support and a true random number generator provides data security. With the TZ1201XBG, designers can implement a complete solution that includes a variety of sensors and supports a high-quality user interface while achieving the lowest power consumption. The size of the TZ1201XBG is only 8mm x 8mm x 0.6mm, and mass production is planned for the summer of 2016.
