Southco has added its Vise Action compression latching line with a new override version that enables the operator to identify whether the latching is on or off.
The new device expands the "Make Security Visible Southco" product line, which provides a visual indication to improve security and monitor access across a wide variety of applications. The latch is produced with a bistable lid that pops out when the latch is unsafe, providing a visual indication of the latch status.
Its standard E3 vise action compression latch has been adjusted to work with a unique cover placed on top of the latch at the time of assembly. The valve cover includes a bistable hinge that allows the valve cover to be fully opened or closed. When the latch is not fully closed, the lid may not close and open suddenly, indicating that the latch is not secure. When the latch is fully closed, the bonnet can also be fully closed, with a clear visual indication that it is safe.
Latches improve efficiency, improve safety, and reduce maintenance errors by enabling operators to easily detect latch status. Designed for heavy use, the cover helps protect the latch from dust and moisture, making it ideal for high-vibration, outdoor or corrosive environments. The series is tested by DIN EN 45545 and DIN EN 61373 to meet the railway industry's fire and vibration standards.
