Silanna Semiconductor has released the world's first buck converter Power IC with intelligent power sharing. The new SZPL3002A buck converter IC with built-in USB PD/FC port controller will significantly reduce the number of components required to implement 65W fast charger and adapter applications, providing up to 4 ports.

The new device offers five selectable preloaded power contract configurations, so OEMs can use a single device in multiple product designs. Power rebalancing distributes underutilized power to previously connected ports, while protection power throttling automatically reduces current when temperature thresholds are reached. These requirements are met by combining a high-efficiency synchronous buck converter and advanced port controller into a QFN package measuring only 5mm x 5mm.

The new IC is based on the company's proven wide-voltage, high-frequency point-of-load DC-DC converter technology, which operates at over 98 percent efficiency. The integrated port controller fully supports USB PD V3.0 Type C interface and supports QC2.0/3.0/4.0/5.0 Type A/C connection. Assisting with power sharing and port power rebalancing functions across two, three or four ports, the controller ensures that port power is adapted to the requirements of a specific device, no matter when it is connected.

Mark Drucker, CEO of Silanna Semiconductor, said: "Silanna Semiconductor is known for our slogan 'Power Management Reimagined,' and this unique power IC is the first in the world to use full power in this high-efficiency DC/DC buck converter. Smart power sharing with integrated USB-PD controller, MCU and VCONN cable communication protocol." "Building with the flexibility of our AnyPort architecture, we are pleased with the customer response, which has resulted in numerous early design wins. We are building stable Number of CO2 smart power devices, it's exciting that our design team is focused on end-to-end power solutions with complementary DC-DC and AC/DC product lines for best-in-class efficiency."

Hubie Noto, Director of Product Marketing at Silanna Semiconductor, commented: “Traditional charger PD ports offer a fixed contract selection of devices based on the amount of power available. These are programmed into the port controller and are based on various voltage and current levels that the device may use when connected. Each port has a different power contract for different power supplies. The SZPL3002A provides a fully programmable contract set, as well as four pre-programmed sets of external resistor value selections.”
