Microchip Technologies has announced its GridTime 3000 GNSS Time Server - a software configurable solution that provides a new level of redundancy, security and resiliency for substations.

Three levels of internal delay options are also available, including a basic VCTCXO and an optional high-performance OCXO or Rubidium oscillator option to extend delay time and improve performance. In addition, the system generates precise time and frequency signals to synchronize analog and digital communication systems. This resilient timing platform includes multiple timing inputs to provide protection in the event of severe weather, environmental disturbances, or GNSS signal outages caused by signal jamming or spoofing.

This precision time server complies with the IEEE 1613-2009 international substation environment and test requirements standard. Compliant with IEC 61850-3, the environmental component of IEC 61850, the industry standard that defines communication protocols for substations. Compliance with these standards demonstrates high resistance to electrical transients and extreme environments including temperature, humidity and other factors, and ensures reliability in harsh substation environments.

The system includes a hardware-based cryptographic assurance module that uses industry-standard-based RSA and aes encryption to prevent unauthorized malicious code configuration uploads.

"Surges, severe weather and cyber-attacks against critical infrastructure all require resilient timing architectures and technologies to mitigate threats and ensure continuous timing," said Randy Brudzinski, vice president of Microchip's Frequency and Time Systems business unit. of customers offer a new level of performance, which means increased reliability of the digital substation communication network.”

The server includes an internal web browser management interface, CMT. CMT provides configuration and management, direct remote management and monitoring of equipment and a new array of accessories, including a multi-band, multi-constellation GNSS receiver system and cold-plug power.
