TPS201xA series power distribution switches are suitable for applications where heavy loads and short circuits may be encountered. These devices are 50-mΩ n channel MOSFET high-side power switches. The switch is controlled by logic enablement compatible with 5-V logic and 3-V logic.

The grid drive is provided by an internal charge pump and is designed to control the rise and fall times of the power switch to minimize electrical surges during switching. Charge pumps require no external components and allow for power as low as 2.7V to operate. When the output load exceeds the current limiting threshold or there is a short circuit, the TPS201xA limits the output current to a safe level by switching to constant current mode.

Functional block diagram

When continuous severe overloads and short circuits increase the power consumption in the switch, resulting in a high junction temperature, the thermal protection circuit closes the switch to prevent damage. Recovery from a hot shutdown is automatic once the equipment has cooled to a sufficient temperature. The internal circuit ensures that the switch remains off until an effective input voltage is present.
