In automotive battery connection applications, low quiescent current (IQ) is important to save power and extend battery life. For systems that are always online, it is particularly necessary to have ultra-low IQ. Texas Instruments TPS7B82-Q1 is a low dropout linear regulator designed for VIN applications up to 40V. With a typical quiescent current of only 2.7µA at light load, it is the best solution for powering microcontrollers and CAN / LIN transceivers in standby systems. The device provides integrated short-circuit and over-current protection. Its operating ambient temperature is –40C to 125C and the junction temperature is –40C to 150C. In addition, despite the large amount of dissipation throughout the device, the device still uses a thermally conductive package for continuous operation. Because of these characteristics, the device is ideally suited as a power source for various automotive applications.
