TDK's New Advanced Multilayer Inductors Meet Evolving Automotive PoC Demands

     TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) announces the launch of the MLJ1608WG series of new multilayer inductors. This compact component is designed for automotive Power over Coax (PoC).

     The maximum impedance of MLJ1608WG series inductors is 2500Ω. In the frequency range of 300MHz to 2GHz, this series of inductors can also maintain the impedance level of 1000Ω. The impedance characteristics of conventional multilayer inductors vary greatly depending on the applied current, and sufficient impedance cannot be guaranteed, while the current variation of the MLJ1608WG series inductors is much smaller. Although the size of this component is only 1.6 (L) * 0.8 (W) * 0.8 (H) mm, it can support a large rated current of 500mA. This greatly reduces impedance changes in current applications. In addition, this component guarantees performance at temperatures up to 125°C.

       With the widespread adoption of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the performance of automotive cameras has also improved significantly. As a result, the demand for higher-speed and higher-capacity interfaces is also growing. Automotive camera systems using LVDS transmission are taking a PoC approach, superimposing data and power onto a single coaxial cable.

        PoC transmits both data and power, reducing the number of wiring harnesses required. This helps to reduce the weight of the vehicle and achieve space saving. In order to separate data and power in a PoC circuit, efficient filtering is required. This usually consists of 2 to 4 inductors. Inductors used in such filters must have high impedance to AC components from low to high frequencies. To meet such requirements, the new MLJ1608WG series is highly optimized by achieving impedance values ​​of 1000Ω or higher over a wide frequency range.
