TDK Corporation further expanded the embedded motor controller product portfolio of its subsidiary Micronas with the introduction of the new HVC 5x family of programmable System on Chip (SOC) motor controller products for powering small stepping, brushed (BDC) and brushless (BLDC) DC motors in automotive and industrial applications.

●HVC 5221D is a motor controller with 4 x 500 mA output for stepper, brushless (BLDC) and brushed DC motors with 32 KB flash memory and LIN interface.

●HVC 5222C is A 3 x 1 A controller for BLDC or BDC motors with 32 KB flash memory and LIN interface.

The new HVC 5x series is optimized for applications based on the current HVC 4x series, providing "one-piece" motor control solutions for stepper, BLDC and BDC motors. The new HVC 5221D and HVC 5222C match specific motor types to achieve lower cost and smaller packaging. Samples are available now and production is scheduled for early 2024.

Following the HVC 4x series, TDK has introduced two HVC 5x series products that further enrich its motor control solutions for intelligent actuators and focus on thermal management systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The HVC 5221D includes four motor terminals, each with a peak current of 500 mA, suitable for stepper and DC motors in expansion valves and water valves. The HVC 5222C includes three motor terminals capable of carrying phase currents up to 1 A and is suitable for brushless motors with intake grids and small fans. * Both controllers include seven universal I/O ports and multiple automotive diagnostics and safety features in a small 24-pin QFN package. HVC 5x series controllers are full line pin compatible for easy design and expansion.

The HVC 4x and HVC 5x series have the following in common

● 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M3 CPU core

●20 MHz system and 35 kHz watchdog oscillator

● Optional 32k or 64k flash memory, 2k or 4k SRAM

● 12-bit 1µs ADC supports a variety of measurement functions

● Digital peripheral equipment, support motor control algorithm

● LIN transceiver and UART for communication, which can be addressed automatically using the BSM method **

● Passed AEC-Q100 auto parts operating temperature Level 1 certification

In addition, the HVC 4x series and the HVC 5x series are sourced from different fabs to improve our supply elasticity to customer delivery.
