The Intersil ICL3237 contains an RS-232 transmitter/receiver powered from 3.0V to 5.5V, compliant with ElA/TIA-232 and V.28/V. 24 specifications, even at VCC = 3.0V. The target applications are cell phones, PDAs, palmtops, laptops, and laptops where low running power, or even low standby power, is critical.
Typical operating circuit
Efficient on-chip charge pump combined with manual power off function, will be reduced to 1 µA standby power supply current. The small footprint of the packaging, the use of small, low-value capacitors, ensures board space savings as well. In the worst load case, ensure that the data rate is greater than 1Mbps (MBAUD = VCC).
The series is fully compatible with 3.3V pure systems, 3.3V and 5.0V hybrid systems, and 5.0V pure systems. The ICL3237 is a 5-drive, 3-receiver device that also includes a non-inverting always active receiver for the "wake up" function.
