Orvo is the industry leader in providing innovative RF solutions that connect the world. Qorvo announces the ACT88420, a highly configurable programmable constant-on-time (COT) power management integrated circuit (PMIC) configured with six voltage rails. The highly compact ACT88420 is ideal for space-constrained designs such as Internet of Things (IoT) applications, point-of-sale terminals, and network cameras.

The ACT88420 has an input voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and provides two 4 A and two 2 A buck regulators, and two 400 mA LDOs. Regulator 1 and LDO can be configured as load switches and Regulator 4 can be used as a 400 mA LDO. The ACT88420 includes an I2C supervisor and controller, programmable power sequencing, and eight configurable tri-state GPIOs. The reduced pin count and increased functionality allow engineers to support multiple SKU operations.

"Six power rails support a high degree of configuration, buck converters and LDOs can be used as load switches, giving designers greater system flexibility, and tri-state GPIOs are programmable multiple times, so the ACT88420 allows designers to configure up to three levels of operation per module.”

This advanced PMIC has efficient performance in both heavy and very light load applications, is easily reconfigured via I2C without changing the PCB, and is versatile. The ACT88420 provides a programming dongle that supports reconfiguration, reducing time to market.

The ACT88420 PMIC is packaged in a 2.66 x 2.66 mm 36-ball WLCSP, minimizing the number of external components required, and is available for sampling and volume production. This video demonstrates the building blocks, ActiveCiPS programming tool, configurability and target application of the ACT88420.
