DS1267 dual digital potentiometer chip is composed of two digital controlled solid state potentiometer. Each potentiometer consists of 256 resistance segments. Between each resistance section and the ends of the potentiometer is a wiper - like spot. The wiper position on the resistance array is set by an 8-bit value that controls which spotter is connected to the wiper output.

The communication and control of the device are completed through the 3-wire serial port interface. This interface allows reading or writing the device wiper position. Two potentiometers can be connected in series (or stacked) to increase the total resistance of the same resolution. For multi-device, single-processor environments, the DS1267 can be cascaded or Daisy chained. This feature provides the ability to control multiple devices through a single 3-wire bus.

The DS1267 offers three standard resistance values, including 10, 50 and 100 kohm versions. The device is available in a 14-pin DIP, 16-pin SOIC and 20-pin TSSOP package.
