In 2020, the global smart lock market size is 1.38 billion US dollars, and the market demand has reached 8.9 million sets. It is expected that from 2021 to 2028, the market demand for smart locks will grow rapidly at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.4%1. By integrating the half-bridge driver IC and the energy harvesting module, a single-chip solution can be used to create an intelligent execution terminal with a small number of components required. Infineon Technologies AG (has developed a 32-bit programmable microcontroller (MCU) based on the ARM® Cortex®-M0 core with a built-in NFC wireless communication module, which can help customers develop smart execution terminals cost-effectively, such as Passive locks, etc.

The NAC1080 MCU has an NFC interface, which allows direct control of the device from a smartphone. Advanced on-premises and cloud capabilities are extensible in mobile apps provided by regional marketing partners. This helps customers reduce BOM cost and supports miniaturized design of products. The NAC1080 supports different operating modes, either in passive mode to be powered by the phone via the NFC function, or powered by the battery in active mode. The NAC1080 also integrates an AES128 accelerator and a true random number generator, enabling data encryption and decryption while achieving ultra-low power consumption.

In addition to being used in NFC passive locks, NAC1080 can also be used as an emergency backup power supply. For example, when the battery-powered active lock system suddenly runs out of power, the NFC interface IC of the electronic device can be used to charge the door lock.
