Infineon Technologies Inc. introduced EZ-PD™ CCG7D, a dual-port USB-C PD (charging) solution that integrates a boost controller for on-board charging applications, meets the latest USB Type-C and PD3.1 specifications and is AEC Q-100 certified. This USB-C PD solution can be used specifically for automotive applications that support Display port, or USB-C Alternate mode. Infineon has partnered with Chinese new energy vehicle maker Ideal Automobile to deploy the solution on its new SUV model Ideal L9, which is capable of not only charging electronic devices using USB ports, but also connecting electronic devices with the car for multimedia sharing. In addition, the EZ-PD™ CCG7D is particularly suitable for on-board charging applications such as heads-up chargers, car rear-seat chargers, car rear-seat entertainment systems, etc.
"As the leading USB-C PD solutions provider, Infineon provides advanced USB-C PD solutions for consumer electronics and automotive applications," said Ganesh Subramaniam, senior vice president and general manager, Wired Connectivity Solutions, Infineon Technologies. The new EZ-PD™ CCG7D solution supports both USB-C PD charging and Alternate DP port mode, enabling seamless and robust interoperability between systems in the automotive market. The Ideal L9 is currently the first vehicle in the world to support USB-C PD Alternate mode, which allows users to charge electronic devices and share multimedia content in the car, bringing convenience and a new user experience for passengers and drivers."
The alternate mode solution based on CCG7D comes with dual USB-C ports, one supporting DP-Sink and the other supporting DP-Source, thus creating a two-way multimedia entertainment center in the car while charging USB devices, Video can also be streamed from a phone or PC to a car display and/or sent to VR goggles. The highly integrated CCG7D effectively reduces BOM costs and board area, providing up to 100 W of output power for each port of the solution. In addition to the CCG7D, Infineon can also offer a single-port version of the device, EZ-PD™ CCG7S, which is also compliant with the AEC Q-100 standard
