Harwin Corporation has released another new member of the Datamate family of 2mm pitch High Reliability (Hi-Rel) connectors, Datamate's Pin Through Reflow (PIHR) products have been engineered to provide designers with a product that is ideal for automated assembly reliable solution. As part of the company's Datamate L-Tek family, these connectors feature a latching configuration. Compared to standard Datamate connectors, they have 2mm long terminations instead of 3mm.

Harwin's Datamate PIHR connectors are available in 2- and 3-contact versions, and the latching mechanism used in these components provides a fast mating connection and high vibration resistance without taking up valuable board space.

Datamate PIHR connectors are ideal for connecting encoders and sensors to machine tools and robotic systems where accuracy in determining position and motion is critical. They are also able to provide reliable connectivity for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) modules installed in high-vibration environments.

These connectors can be supplied in tape and reel format to avoid any manual work before soldering and can be installed using an automated pick and place machine. Pin-in-hole Reflow Soldering - Also known as Pin-in-Paste (PIP), termination provides the mechanical retention of through-hole technology (THT) with the advantages of surface mount technology (SMT) production processes and cost-effective.

Ryan Smart, Director of Product Management at Harwin, said: “Modern encoders must provide a high level of accuracy while being able to handle harsh industrial conditions such as severe vibration and high temperatures. Equipment manufacturers need to increase automated assembly levels to increase yield and reduce defect rates, Datamate PIHR gives them the reliability they need with the convenience of being compatible with pick-and-place and reflow soldering processes.”
