Freescale Semiconductor ’s StarterTRAK TRK S12VR WLFT reference design is designed as a development platform for Freescale ’s S12 MagniV S12VR 16-bit microcontroller. This simple reference design uses few external components to achieve power boost and relay-based DC motor control applications.
This reference design supports anti-clamp and motor stall detection, LIN serial communication, and relay diagnostics, all using the resources of the onboard MagniV S12VR microcontroller. The reference design controls a single brushed DC motor via a relay to provide up / down and stop control. The core of the board is a 32-pin LQFP S12VR microcontroller, which includes a voltage regulator, a LIN physical layer, a low-end driver, and a high-end driver. External Hall-effect sensors determine speed and direction. The LIN 2.2 communication protocol is used to communicate with the master LIN node. The board can operate from a supply voltage of 8V to 18V. LIN connectors support automotive and industrial networks. Hall effect encoders can detect anti-pinching and motor stall conditions.
Relay diagnostics are supported by the four high-voltage inputs (HVI) on the S12VR. This pin can withstand voltages up to 42VDC, and the diagnostic status is transmitted via LIN. Test switches are available for specific glass lift functions, including fast up / down and simulated half-open window detection. A dedicated debug port can be used with an external Freescale HCS12 (X) firmware debugger. Provides anti-pinch reference software as well as complete documentation and complete PCB layout.
The Freescale StarterTRAK reference design board includes a DVD with the CodeWarrior IDE software development environment. Reference software includes motor control and anti-pinching codes, training materials, and other supporting documentation. This reference design targets DC motor control, industrial and automotive power operating systems, and relay-based applications.
