FCI's new Griplet connector provides a reliable solution for miniature IDC wire-to-board connections and is small and compact, making it easy to install in tight spaces. It is designed for stackable pitch (up to twelve positions) and has a universal housing for protecting and securing termination components.
The clamp ring is also particularly flexible, with one part number holding multiple wire gauges. Thanks to the four-point wire contact and stress relief function, it can ensure highly reliable and stable operation even under shock, extreme temperature and vibration conditions. Griplet is suitable for a variety of applications, including harsh environments, automotive and industrial as well as instrumentation, smart meters, thermostats, automation controls, LED lighting, sensors and white goods.
This connector is only 3.7mm high and covers an area of 4mm x 6.1mm. It can directly connect discrete insulated wire assemblies to a PCB with a narrow space. Individual contacts can be located anywhere on the PCB, bringing power and signals to the board, and Griplet can also daisy-chain the PCB. Because Griplet connectors can accommodate multiple wire diameters between 20-32 AWG, the total application cost can be reduced compared to soldering or crimping processes. The company says parts can be supplied in bags, reels / continuous strips, or sewn into the disposable pick-and-place at pitches, so Griplet connectors are suitable for manual or automated applications with customizable pitches.
