ROHM has introduced 24 new compact high efficiency diodes (12 RBR series and 12 RBQ series) while expanding the Schottky barrier diode portfolio. These devices (178 in all) are ideal for protection and rectification circuits in automotive, consumer and industrial equipment applications.
The company has strengthened the SBD lineup to balance the small size and low VF and IR characteristics required by the automotive industry. The RBR and RBQ families have been expanded to include a range of compact high-current, high-voltage products that facilitate rectification and protection in a wider range of applications.
The introduction of new processes has improved the performance of this series of chips by 25% over traditional products (especially the VF of the RBR series). In addition, the series offers superior low-VF characteristics, which are key to improving efficiency and reducing losses. That makes them ideal for automotive applications and consumer electronics, including laptops that require high efficiency. Twelve of the products have a compact package (PMDE package (2.5mm x 1.3mm)) with a 42% reduction in installation area compared to the existing product (PMDU package/SD-123).
They are ideal for automotive powertrain applications and power supplies for industrial equipment operating in high-temperature environments. Twelve new 100V products were added to meet the demand for higher voltages. Both series are aEC-Q101 compliant to ensure automotive grade reliability. At the same time, the RBQ series has excellent low IR characteristics and can operate stably at high temperatures -- significantly reducing the risk of thermal runaway that SBD is concerned about.
