In addition to its popular PowerBlox DC-DC converter product line, Exar also introduced a new product line of 40V switching regulators. XR76203, XR76205 and XR76208 are synchronous buck regulators that support 3A, 5A and 8A point-of-load (POL) power supplies, respectively. These devices are designed to provide a wide input voltage range from 5V to 40V, while using a proprietary emulated current mode constant-on-time (COT) control loop to provide high transient response and output accuracy over the entire voltage range for a wide range of Power supply. Industrial and network equipment usually powered by well-regulated 24VDC, classic telecommunications 18V to 36V or 24VAC power. The XR76203, XR76205 and XR76208 have their proprietary emulated current mode COT control schemes, using ceramic output capacitors to provide extremely fast line and load transient response. They do not require loop compensation, which simplifies circuit implementation and reduces overall component count. The control loop also provides a 0.07% load and a line regulation of 0.15%, and maintains a constant operating frequency. Optional power saving mode allows users to work in discontinuous mode (DCM) at light load, which greatly improves converter efficiency. The company says that many protection features including overcurrent, overheating, short circuit and UVLO help to achieve safe operation under abnormal operating conditions. "The new 40V PowerBlox voltage regulator product line follows the recently released 40V XR75100 synchronous controller and XR77129 general-purpose PMIC, showing Exar's commitment to the industrial customer base," said Jon Cronk, director of product marketing for Exar Power. "Exar's proprietary emulated current mode architecture makes it unique in terms of load and line regulation and transient response. The universal 5mm x 5mm package size allows designers to easily expand various power levels." XR76203, XR76205 and XR76208 are compliant with RoHS required green / halogen-free, space-saving 30-pin 5mm x 5mm QFN package.
