Diodes Incorporated's new miniature AP3403 step-down DC-DC converter can achieve a typical efficiency of over 95%, helping to extend the battery life of smartphones and other low-voltage portable products. The converter is a synchronous PWM device that can drive loads up to 600mA and maintain high efficiency by configuring external resistors, capacitors and inductor components.
To support the operation of miniature lithium-ion batteries, the input voltage range is as low as 2.7V to 5V, and the no-load current is only 34µA. The buck converter ensures excellent power and load regulation and uses current mode control to provide the fastest transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limit.
By operating at a fixed 2MHz to reduce ripple, the AP3403 can help reduce the cost and size of external circuit components, while its ultra-small, thermally efficient U-DFN1616 package further helps reduce the overall circuit size.
The converter's output voltage range is 0.7V to 5.5V and can be easily configured according to application requirements. The integrity of the system is maintained by a series of comprehensive built-in functions, including undervoltage lockout, overheat protection, ic mode short circuit protection and soft start function. Evaluation boards are also available.
