Cypress Semiconductor has announced two reference design kits (RDK) based on PRoC BLE programmable on-chip radio chip solutions for Bluetooth smart applications. The new CY5672 PRoC BLE remote control RDK and CY5682 PRoC BLE touch mouse RDK provide a feature-rich production-ready implementation and extend battery life. These kits leverage Cypress's single-chip PRoC BLE solution, which includes Bluetooth Smart Radio, a high-performance 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 core with ultra-low power modes, and Cypress's industry-leading CapSense capacitive touch Induction and TrueTouch touch screen function. Customers can use Cypress's GUI-based, easy-to-use PSoC Creator Integrated Design Environment (IDE) and CySmart BLE simulation tools to develop and test their designs. Jayant Somani, senior director of Cypress Bluetooth low energy products, said: "The widespread adoption of Bluetooth low energy, long battery life and fast connection time make it the best choice for remote control, mouse and other HID applications. "With these two new reference design kits, Cypress will provide our customers with complete, ready-to-production system designs to quickly bring Bluetooth Smart products to market." CY5672 PRoC BLE Remote Control RDK Supports 2-inch touchpad to detect touch gestures, and integrates a microphone to capture and transmit voice input for voice recognition applications. The reference design also integrates a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope for motion control applications. The feature-rich reference design provides more than one year of battery life and a range of more than 30 feet. Compared with competitive design, RDK can reduce the bill of materials cost by 40%. The CY5682 PRoC BLE touch mouse RDK is compatible with all major operating systems, including Windows 8.1, MacOS, Android and Chrome. The reference design includes buttons that map to common user interface shortcuts for Windows 8 and 8.1, and supports Microsoft touch gestures. The battery life of the touch mouse is over one year. Cypress provides all the necessary firmware in PSoC Creator. These reference designs are used for development, manufacturing, and certification testing. The company said that these kits also include a USB dongle that can emulate a Bluetooth low energy host. Computex 2015, World Trade Center, Taipei, Taiwan, June 2-6, booth N1213, Hall 4F, Nangang.
