Atmel's SAM C21 Xplained Pro evaluation kit, a low-cost hardware platform for evaluating Atmel ATSAMC21J18A microcontrollers. Supported by the Atmel Studio integrated development platform, the kit provides easy access to the features of ATSAMC21J18A and explains how to integrate the device into a custom design. This kit allows developers to easily evaluate the ATSAMC21J18A microcontroller without any external programming or debugging tools. The kit includes an on-board Atmel embedded debugger (EDBG) with a virtual COM port and a data gateway interface (SPI, I2C and four GPIOs) for bidirectional communication between the ATSAMC21J18A and the host. The EDBG debugger interface works with the Atmel Studio development platform to program and debug ATSAMC21J18A. The level shifter allows selection of 3.3V and 5V target voltages. The on-board ATSAMC21J18A microcontroller is based on an ARM Cortex-M0 + processor running up to 48MHz, and is equipped with 256KB of flash memory and 32KB of SRAM. The SAM C21 Xplained Pro kit includes an installed 32.768kHz crystal and a package of high-frequency crystals that can be used as a clock source. The kit also includes an Atmel QTouch capacitive touch-sensing button and two mechanical buttons (user and reset). The SAM C21 kit has multiple input / output options, including digital-to-analog converter (DAC) output connectors, LIN and CAN transceiver connectors, Cortex external debug connectors, and three sets of expansion headers. The development board also has a set of Arduino (TM) compatible Uno R3 expansion connectors that can be connected to compatible Arduino expansion boards. The board can be powered via the embedded debugger USB port or an external 5VDC 1A power supply. With the SAM C21 Xplained Pro evaluation kit, developers can quickly prototype industrial automation, appliance, and automotive solutions.
