The AD734 is an accurate high-speed four-quadrant analog multiplier that is compatible with the industry standard AD534 and provides the transfer function W = XY/U. The AD734 provides low-impedance voltage output with a full power (20 V p-p) bandwidth of 10 MHz. The total static error (a combination of scaling, migration, and nonlinearity) is 0.1% of the full scale. Distortion is usually less than −80 dBc and is guaranteed. Low capacitance X, Y, and Z inputs are completely differential. In most applications, no external component is required to define functions.

The internal scale (denominator) voltage U is 10v, derived from the buried Zener voltage reference. The new feature provides the option to substitute the external denominator voltage, allowing the use of AD734 as a two-quadrant divider with a denominator range of 1000:1, signal bandwidth maintained at 10 MHz to 20 dB gain, 2 MHz gain at 40 dB, 200 kHz gain at 60 dB, and gain bandwidth product at 200 MHz.

The advanced performance of the AD734 is achieved through a combination of new circuit technologies, the use of a high-speed complementary bipolar process, and a new method of laser dressing based on AC signals rather than traditional DC methods. The broadband width of the input stage of AD734 (> 40 MHz) and the 200 MHz gain-bandwidth product of the multiplier core allows the AD734 to be used as a low-distortion demodulator with input frequencies up to 40 MHz, as long as the desired output frequency is less than 10 MHz.

The AD734AQ and AD734BQ are suitable for industrial temperature ranges from −40°C to +85°C and are packaged in 14-pin CERDIP and 14-pin PDIP. The AD734SQ/883B can be machined as MIL-STD-883B for the military range from −55°C to +125°C with a 14-pin CERDIP.
