CAT5114 is a single digital potentiometer designed as an electronic alternative to mechanical potentiometers and trimmer potentiometers. They are ideal for automatic adjustments on high-volume production lines and for applications where equipment requiring regular adjustments is difficult to access or located in dangerous or remote environments.

CAT5114 contains a 32 tapped series resistor array connected between the two terminals RH and RL. A rise/fall counter and decoder controlled by three input pins that determine which faucet is connected to the wiper RW. Wiper Settings are stored in non-volatile memory, are not lost when the device is powered off, and are automatically restored when power is restored. Wipers can be adjusted to test new system values without affecting storage Settings.

The wiper control of CAT5114 is accomplished by CS, U/D and INC input control pins. The INC input adds the wiper in a direction determined by the logical state of the U/D input. CS input is used to select the device and store the wiper position before power is turned off. The digital POT can be used as a three-end resistor divider or a variable resistor at both ends. Digital pot brings variability and programmability to a wide variety of applications, including control, parameter tuning, and signal processing.
