Engineers are now able to perform critical 5G NR measurements on oscilloscopes according to the 3GPP specification to propose and characterize new electronic designs. SignalVu 5G NR analysis software for 6 series B MSO oscilloscopes has been released by Tektronix.

Rf system designers favor the 6 series B MSO oscilloscopes to view power rails, digital control bus and I/O signals, and RF signals. Each channel is supported by a digital down converter, allowing spectrum analysis to be synchronized with the time domain waveform. This provides engineers with a time-coherent view of the signal choreography that makes up their design.

5G system designers can now add 5G NR signal analysis to their oscilloscopes, enabling them to quickly diagnose fault signal interactions on a single oscilloscope that would otherwise require painstaking correlating between multiple instruments.

In addition to providing a synchronized view of various signals, the 6 Series B MSO provides the wide acquisition bandwidth and low inherent noise required for 5G signal analysis. Providing this performance on an oscilloscope reduces the need for expensive dedicated vector signal analyzers.

Chris Witt, vice president and General manager of Tektronix Portfolio Solutions said: "With 5G NR integration, users can achieve complete system visibility in a single instrument, enabling them to debug the most complex designs in line with future specifications," "We are excited to see the early reactions from customers testing the new DUT using this technology."

The new analysis package combines basic signal quality measurements, such as EVM, ACP, SEM and PVT. It also allows pass/fail testing of the 5G NR physical layer to validate the transmitter design in accordance with the 5G NR standard published in the 3GPP 15/16 test specification.

The company developed the new software package using algorithms developed by NI, formerly Known as National Instruments.

Josh Mueller, senior vice president and general manager of portfolio business said:"NI is excited to work with Tektronix to provide multiple ways to trigger, capture, analyze and diagnose complex 5G integration and design issues that are typically not available in traditional VSA,"  "Integrating NI's 5G algorithm into SignalVu Vector Signal Analysis (VSA) software to run on Tektronix Oscilloscopes and signal analyzers will bring new value to customer workflows."

The 5G NR PHY layer solution based on the 6 series B MSO offers significant advantages over traditional signal analyzers with wide signal analysis up to 2GHz and low instrument noise for accurate EVM measurements.

The software operates the same oscilloscope and signal analyzer, eliminating the need to learn a new toolset. For high frequency systems such as FR2, the 5GNR analysis option is also available for the DPO70000SX, which provides up to 70ghz bandwidth. The 5GNR option is also available on the Tektronix RSA500 and RSA5000 series for engineers using real-time signal analyzers.
