Teledyne e2v EV10AS940: A Revolutionary Journey in Microwave ADCs

Publicar en septiembre 13, 2024

In today’s rapidly advancing technology landscape, high-speed data acquisition and processing capabilities are essential drivers of innovation. The EV10AS940, the latest development by Teledyne e2v, is a cutting-edge microwave analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed to meet the demand for high-speed data acquisition. This 10-bit, single-channel, 12.8 GSPS ADC not only stands out with its exceptional performance but also sets a new industry benchmark with its integrated digital features—frequency hopping and beamforming.

Frequency Hopping: Flexible Data Acquisition

The EV10AS940's frequency hopping allows users to select specific frequency bands, optimizing data transmission to the FPGA and reducing data load. Using digital down-conversion, it supports up to four digital channels with configurable frequency and phase. A demonstration with the EV10AS940 FMC+ evaluation board and an FPGA motherboard highlighted real-time parameter adjustments through a graphical user interface (GUI).

The setup, which includes multiple signal generators and combiners, supplies the ADC with diverse test signals. Through the GUI, users can easily configure frequency and phase settings, ensuring precise ADC control. Additionally, with the Fast Frequency Hopping (FFH) feature, users can select different parameter sets using GPIO to quickly switch frequencies, which is crucial in applications that require rapid response.

Beamforming: Precise Signal Localization

In addition to its frequency hopping capability, the EV10AS940 supports beamforming, a feature that allows for independent gain and delay control on each digital down-conversion (DDC) channel. By accurately managing signal timing, beamforming significantly enhances signal localization accuracy. During demonstrations, users can activate four channels and set the corresponding NCO frequencies, observing delay effects in real-time through IQ plots.

The beamforming tab simplifies the process of adjusting gain and delay for each channel. Users can easily control gain through an intuitive interface and select between integer or fractional delays, allowing for more precise signal control. This flexibility is particularly valuable in applications involving multi-chip synchronization and digital beamforming, where it can significantly improve system performance.

Teledyne e2v’s EV10AS940 ADC brings revolutionary changes to the microwave data acquisition field with its high-speed performance and integrated digital functions. Whether used in frequency hopping or beamforming applications, the EV10AS940 demonstrates exceptional data processing power and flexibility. With the release of the EV10AS940 evaluation board, users can now start evaluating and testing this ADC and its digital features, unlocking its potential in various fields. Teledyne e2v welcomes interested users to explore the next chapter in high-speed data acquisition.
