Latest Wi-Fi HaLow System-on-Chip (SoC) sets new standards for performance, efficiency, security and versatility in the IoT

Publicar en enero 13, 2025

CES 2025 - Morse Microelectronics, the world's leading supplier of Wi-Fi HaLow chips based on the IEEE 802.11ah standard, announced the launch of the much-anticipated second-generation MM8108 system-on-chip (SoC). Following the great success of the first-generation MM6108 SoC, the MM8108 has achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in core indicators such as coverage, data throughput and power efficiency, while significantly reducing the cost, workload, and cycle of bringing next-generation Wi-Fi HaLow products to market.

Morse Microelectronics Launches Second Generation MM8108 System-on-Chip

The MM8108 uses the world's first sub-GHz 256-QAM modulation technology to achieve an excellent transmission rate of up to 43.33 Mbps in a bandwidth of 8 MHz, making it an ideal choice for applications such as agriculture, mining, industry, home and urban environments. The MM8108's integrated 26dBm power amplifier (PA) has excellent power efficiency, and the low noise amplifier (LNA) ensures excellent performance without the need for an external surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, allowing it to pass global regulatory certification. The exceptional power efficiency significantly extends battery life, enabling the use of solar-powered Wi-Fi HaLow cameras and IoT devices.

“Once again, our engineering team has created the smallest, fastest, and lowest power Wi-Fi HaLow chip on the market,” said Andrew Terry, co-founder and CTO of Morse Microelectronics. “The MM8108 provides a powerful and practical solution for the evolving needs of the IoT. With host offload, integrated amplifiers, and industry-leading security, the MM8108 makes long-range, low-power IoT application development simpler and more cost-effective than ever before.”

MM8108 key features:

World’s first 256-QAM (MCS9) operation: Improves spectral efficiency, minimizes interference in high-density environments, and delivers throughput up to 43.33Mbps

USB, SDIO, and SPI host integration: Easier integration, enabling USB access points and STA gateways to operate on new and existing network infrastructures

Integrated power amplifier for unmatched transmission efficiency: 3.3V voltage source requires only 325mA streaming consumption, up to 26dBm transmit output power

Low-power operation: Optimized for battery-powered applications, significantly longer sleep time, ultra-low power consumption in sleep mode

Leading receive (Rx) and transmit (Tx) performance: The longest transmission distance and fastest speed Wi-Fi HaLow chip on the market can support a variety of applications including AI-enabled IoT devices and real-time transmission of multiple ultra-high-definition (HD) 4K cameras over a large range.

Enhanced security: Supports next-generation WPA3 with SAE and GCMP encryption to provide strong link layer protection

Scalable design: Compact 5 x 5 mm BGA package minimizes printed circuit board (PCB) size and cost

MM8108 further consolidates Morse Microelectronics' leadership in the market for the highest quality, highest performance and most efficient Wi-Fi HaLow compatible chips.

Accelerate market growth

To complement the cutting-edge MM8108, Morse Microelectronics has launched the MM8108-RD09 USB gateway reference design. The design demonstrates the convenience of upgrading existing Wi-Fi 4/5/6/6E/7 network infrastructure to support Wi-Fi HaLow. The gateway reference design will be provided to customers as a fully Wi-Fi HaLow-compatible solution to help build commercial USB gateways or simplify the process of integrating the MM8108 chip in terminal products.

MM8108-RD09 USB Gateway Main Features:

USB Gateway using the latest generation MM8108 Morse Microelectronics chipset

SMA antenna selected for optimal performance

Robust design that can be directly integrated into customer product designs

Fully compliant with IEEE 802.11ah standards

Wi-Fi HaLow certification available through the Wi-Fi Alliance

The MM8108-RD09 USB Gateway will be paired with a Raspberry Pi 4B, power supply and antenna as a complete Wi-Fi HaLow evaluation kit (MM8108-EKH19) for customers interested in testing and integrating the MM8108 into their own platforms. This powerful combination makes the MM8108 the core of a compact plug-and-play solution that can easily and efficiently integrate Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity into existing devices.

"The MM8108-EKH19 is more than just a Wi-Fi HaLow evaluation platform, it's an enabler of market transformation," said Michael De Nil, co-founder and CEO of Morse Microelectronics. "By simplifying the integration process, we are making it easier for customers to adopt Wi-Fi HaLow, driving growth and opening new opportunities in the IoT and beyond. These solutions position Morse Microelectronics as a leader in a rapidly expanding market, enabling companies to harness the full potential of Wi-Fi HaLow for transformative connectivity."
